Teen seriously injured in hit-and-run accident with tractor trailer in Lancaster

Town of Lancaster Police say driver of the rig was tracked down less than a mile away from the scene.

LANCASTER, N.Y. — An 18-year-old man is in serious condition at Erie County Medical Center after being hit by a flatbed tractor-trailer that left the scene.

The man suffered "numerous internal injuries but is expected to survive," according to Lancaster Police, which added that the driver is now in custody and cooperating with the investigation.

The accident happened at about 1:40 p.m. Friday on Ransom Road in the Town of Lancaster. Lancaster Police said a tractor pulling a lowboy trailer was heading north.

Police tell 2 On Your Side at least one witness was able to provide a description of the vehicle that hit the teen.

A Lancaster detective, with help from an Erie County Sheriff's deputy, was able to track it down less than a mile from the scene.

Charges against that driver, who later admitted to his involvement in what happened, are pending.
