Kensington Expressway still in spotlight as leaders discuss possible changes

Critics have called it 'a community fracturing scar,' as the future of the 33 near the Humboldt Parkway neighborhood was once again up for discussion.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Ddozens of people attended a public meeting to discuss the future of the 33.

The Restore Our Community Coalition hosted the event, along with speakers including New York State Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and State Senator Tim Kennedy.

They say the goal of the meeting is to hear from community members about the changes they want to see.

"We want to reunite the community," Kennedy said. "We want to create a presence and a parkland that the community can be proud of and the only way that this is gonna happen is if Albany comes through with the resources so the assemblywoman and I are gonna be fighting to make sure that that happens."

Those in attendance Wednesday night reviewed the latest rendition of the plan from the department of transportation.

Advocates say they're one step away from being "shovel ready."

This particular spot has been an area much criticized by lawmakers in the past, even going so far as to call it "a community fracturing scar."
