BUFFALO, N.Y. — In a media release Wednesday, the National Weather Service Office in Buffalo, New York announced they are looking for Cooperative Weather Observers who live in and to represent the towns of Youngstown and Rushford

Weather observers in this program report observations such as rain totals, snow accumulations and snow depth directly to the NWS daily via tool free phone or the internet. It's important to note that this is a volunteer position, but those who are picked will join a network of nearly 10,000 volunteer weather observers.

The daily observations from across Western New York, and the country, are recorded and also used in long term climate and research.

If selected for this program, the NWS will provide a measuring stick and rain gauge for you.

If interested in becoming an official weather observer for this program, you can contact the NWS Office in Buffalo by calling 716-565-0204 or emailing Dan.Kelly@noaa.gov.
