CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Western New York and the Southern Tier experienced strong winds Sunday morning, causing many residents to lose power. The Buffalo-Niagara International Airport also experienced issues due to the storm.
Nearly two dozen flights were cancelled and/or delayed early Sunday morning due to inclimate weather. This affected arriving flights and departing flights.
According to Helen Tederous, public affairs director for the NFTA, the airport was operating on a backup power source early Sunday morning. Power was fully restored to the airport around 10 a.m.
"Due to the wind storm and power outage in the area, the Buffalo airport is experiencing power issues," Tederous said in a statement. "This situation has caused flight delays. We are advising travelers to check with their airlines for updated information. We are working on resolving the issue and will update you throughout the morning."
Tederous advises anyone planning on flying to check with their airline for the latest flight information. You can also check current flight information here.
