EAST AURORA, N.Y. — Several fire departments responded to a house fire Saturday afternoon on Girard Avenue in the Village of East Aurora.

According to the East Aurora Fire Department, the owner cleaned out their fireplace, then put the ashes in a garbage can in the garage, which started the fire.

There were two propane tanks in the garage, and firefighters believe one of them was set off due to the fire, causing an explosion. The fire then spread from the garage to the house, engulfing the basement and second story.
