Deputy's wife appears before human trafficking court judge for prostitution charge

Melissa Waliczek appeared for a court hearing at Buffalo City Court, Tuesday. She was arrested for prostitution on August 16 in Lancaster.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Melissa Waliczek was in Buffalo City Court Tuesday morning for a pre-trail hearing.

According to the Human Trafficking court judge hearing her case, Waliczek had already been arraigned on a charge of prostitution in Lancaster Town Court at a prior date.

According to Lancaster Police Chief William Karn, it was back on August 16 that his officers arrested Waliczek in the parking lot of the Flix movie theater on Transit Road. Karn explained that his undercover detectives responded to an online advertisement for sex, and those investigators say Waliczek allegedly arranged a meet up in the parking lot.

Erie County Sheriff's office spokesperson, Scott Zylka says their human trafficking unit started investigating Melissa Waliczek's husband Wallace Waliczek after Lancaster investigators found additional evidence which pointed to his potential involvement.

Waliczek was immediately suspended without pay from his job as Erie County Sheriff's deputy on October 8, after his arrest for allegedly promoting prostitution.

Zylka tells 2 On Your Side Waliczek had been assigned to the Jail Management System, which includes a number of units beyond the Erie County Holding Center.

"More charges may be coming," added Zylka, "but that's all I can say at this point."

According to authorities, both prostitution and promoting prostitution are misdemeanor offenses which will be handled in Buffalo City Court by a human trafficking judge.

Melissa Waliczek is back in Buffalo City Court on October 29.

Deputy Waliczek has not been arraigned yet. He's scheduled to appear on November 12.
