'For Nothing' co-creators overwhelmed by WNY response to plans to film pilot

The series will tell a fictional mafia story that takes place in Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nicholas Denmon could have shot his mafia TV series anywhere, but he wanted to do it in his hometown.

"I think all of us have somebody in our family, especially if you're Italian or Irish, that knows a guy, and in my family I have several of those stories," Denmon told 2 On Your Side.

Even though he hasn't lived in the region since he was a child, the Buffalo native wrote the stories down in his fictional "For Nothing" series. Now he's hoping to turn them into a hit TV show too.

He and his co-creator, Sean Gloria, have been fielding thousands of phone calls and emails from Western New Yorkers who want to be part of the cast and crew when the pilot starts filming next month.

"The response is very exciting," Gloria said. "Quite literally, have to turn it on silent for the majority of the day while we're getting work done."

Added Denmon: "We feel really loved and embraced by the outpouring of support and people that want to be involved."

Daniel Baldwin is going to be part of the series too.

"I had the pleasure of speaking with him yesterday, and he gave me amazing stories about Jim Kelly," Denmon said.

As for the cameo Baldwin was hoping for involving his quarterback friend, Denmon all but shut down any plans of that happening.

"He was saying about how he wants to have poor Jim Kelly die a violent death. I thought that was hysterical and amazing, but he's Kelly Tough so good luck Daniel," Denmon said.

Shooting for the pilot is scheduled to begin in February, then Denmon and his team will pitch it to the big streaming platforms in hopes of selling several seasons.

"Hopefully, when this thing's in the can, the executives will take notice and say this is a slam dunk opportunity for them to get some viewers have some solid content," Denmon said.

Added Gloria: "That's the biggest thing for us. We want to walk in, and for them to not be able to say no, that's the goal. We'll give them an offer they can't refuse."
