2 tornadoes cause damage in WNY; State of Emergency issued in Eden

A State of Emergency was issued in Eden after a tornado touched down there Wednesday afternoon.

EDEN, N.Y. — The Town of Eden has issued a State of Emergency after storms rolled through causing damage to homes, trees, and power lines.

The National Weather Service confirmed that tornadoes touched down in both Chautauqua County (Arkwright) and Erie County (Eden) on Wednesday afternoon, as severe storms caused widespread damage across Western New York.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz made the announcement on social media. He said there was significant damage to several farms in Eden with several barns a total loss. While there have been no reports of human injuries, several animals were reportedly hurt.

2 On Your Side was outside of a home in Eden, where a metal roof was torn off.

Thousands are without power in Erie County, with Orchard Park, Aurora, Lancaster, and Hamburg the hardest hit.

2 On Your Side's Dave McKinley was in Chautauqua County, where homes also suffered damage. He spotted at least one barn on Prospect Road near Forestville that was missing part of its roof.

Crews had to remove trees to free an elderly woman who was stuck in her car when the suspected tornado came through on Route 39 in Forestville. Our reporter says she appeared alert when EMTs removed her from the vehicle.

Several trees and wires are down across several parts of Western New York.
