Winter weather alerts canceled Saturday evening

Lake Effect Snow Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories were allowed to expire Saturday evening as the prominent lake effect band fizzled out.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — While a few, light snow showers are possible Saturday night, the heavy lake effect snow is over.

Lake Effect Snow Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories were canceled at 6 p.m. by the National Weather Service in Buffalo. This was as the main band of lake effect snow fizzled out across the Northtowns.

Still anticipate snow covered roads, snow drifts and blowing snow at times through the weekend as regions clean up after the lake effect snow showers. Snow totals from across Erie, Genesee and Wyoming counties range between 4 to 12 inches Saturday.

Another round of snow is on the way for Sunday morning, but will only bring a quick 1 to 3 inches. This is associated with a front that will also keep conditions cold for the afternoon.

Many waterfront parks across the Buffalo area will remain closed after strong winds Friday and Saturday caused minor lakeshore flooding and icing.

Stay tuned to Storm Team 2 and WGRZ.COM for the latest weather updates.
