BUFFALO, N.Y. — Even though there were a few weather extremes this past June, the highs and the lows level out when you do the math.
The average high temperature for June 2020 was 76.8 degrees, about 1.5 degrees away from the 30 year average of 75.3 degrees. So, somewhat above average, but nothing out of the ordinary. The average low temperature was 57.5 degrees, only 0.2 degrees away from it's 57.3 degrees average.
The excitement for this past June's weather doesn't rely on how hot or cool it was, per say. But Buffalo did set a new daily record low temperature for June 14 at 42 degrees. This broke a 74 year old record for the coldest temperatures recorded on that day since record keeping began back in the late 1800s. The previous record low for June 14 was 43 degrees and set on June 14, 1946.
Also, there was only one official 90 degree day in June, which occurred on June 10. This is the second time temperatures were officially recorded in the 90s, with the other being May 26 and a record high temperature that day. By this time, there are typically only a handful of 90 degree days, but you could say they're lacking heading into July. However, that will likely change as the forecast is heating up heading into July.
And remember how the month began? A roaring, severe thunderstorm dove south across Niagara, Erie, and Cattaraugus counties just before midnight and brought pea to golf ball size hail.
