DOT announces lane shifts, road closures for I-86 this week

Impacted areas for a construction project will include bridges over Chautauqua Lake in Bemus Point. The first of those changes goes into effect Monday.

BEMUS POINT, N.Y. — If you're driving along I-86 this week, be prepared for some lane shifts and closures.

Impacted areas for an ongoing construction project will include bridges over Chautauqua Lake in Bemus Point, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

The first of those traffic-flow changes goes into effect Monday. Those changes include:

  • The Exit 10 (Long Point State Park) ramp from eastbound I-86 to westbound State Route 430 will be closed from 7 a.m. Monday until roughly 6 a.m. Saturday. People traveling westbound on State Route 430 will encounter a detour using I-86, Exit 11.
  • Starting Tuesday and ending Friday, westbound I-86 will be closed to traffic between Exit 10 and Exit 9 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Travelers should follow posted detours.
  • I-86 traffic in both directions will be closed between Exit 9 and Exit 11 from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. Detours will be posted.
  • Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, I-86 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the westbound side of the I-86 bridges. That traffic pattern will continue throughout the 2024 construction season.

If you're traveling through a work zone, slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. The state is also reminding people that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
