Update provided on 3-mile road repair project on Abbott Road

"We are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather this autumn to wrap up as many road and bridge projects as possible," Mark Poloncarz said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Your drive to Highmark Stadium for a Bills game might now be a little smoother going forward.

A $6 million, 3-mile road repair project on Abbott Road is almost finished, according to local leaders, who said Friday that more than 100 miles of roads have been repaired this year.

The road work comes at a price tag of $55.8 million — the most ever spent in a single year.

"We were able to get the road lanes that go interior toward the football stadium completed last week," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said.

"So people had a nice smooth ride when they went to the game, and the other side had not been completely paved yet, and then were finishing up the paving on the opposite side, and we'll be finished in the next few days."

Poloncarz — who was accompanied by Department of Public Works Commissioner Bill Geary on Friday morning — added that because of the warmer weather, they could finish up more repairs before winter.

"We are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather this autumn to wrap up as many road and bridge projects as possible," Poloncarz said on Friday.

"Our extensive 2024 road program included work in every highway district, addressing infrastructure needs countywide, and I thank Commissioner Geary and the team in DPW for moving it all forward."

Geary added in a statement released Friday, "Good weather throughout this construction season allowed us to complete many projects and as winter approaches we are fitting in as much road work as we can."
