BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo may not be hosting Olympic events, but its sister city in France is.
In 1989, Lille became a sister city to Buffalo. They became twin cities because both were similarly sized, along their country’s border, home to many universities, and are hospital centers, states the City of Buffalo. Every two years the cities exchange people and students focused in areas of art, business, education, government/law, and medicine.
Lille is hosting basketball and handball events in Pierre Mauroy Stadium. Team USA Men’s basketball begins their path to gold starting at 11:15 a.m. July 28 in Lille.
Team USA handball did not qualify, but a Western New York native who made it to the 1984 games in handball will be a volunteer at Team USA House.
There is no information about whether buffalo wings will be served at the Olympic Village.
