ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick on Wednesday.
It won't be too long before the Bills see the All-Pro wide receiver again, though. While the NFL schedule will not be released until May, the Bills do know their opponents, and one of them is the Texans. That game will be played in Houston.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane, during a 4 p.m. news conference Wednesday, said the Diggs trade does not represent any lack of faith in the team contending for a Super Bowl next season.
"Every move we make is because we're trying to win, and we'll continue to do that going forward," Beane said.
Just days ahead of the trade, on March 30, Diggs replied on X — formerly known as Twitter — to someone's comment on a post by Robert Griffin III, who asked, "Is Stefon Diggs essential to Josh Allen’s success?"
Griffin said the combination of Allen and Diggs made the Bills annual Super Bowl contenders.
"He has been since he got to Buffalo in 2020, they are better together and if Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen stay together with the @BuffaloBills this year, their Championship window is WIDE OPEN," Griffin said.
Someone in Griffin's responses said Diggs was not essential to Allen's success.
Diggs noticed it and replied on Tuesday, "You sure?"
Diggs, now 30, joined the Bills in 2020 and helped the Bills become Super Bowl contenders during his four seasons. In his first season, he caught 127 passes for 1,535 yards.
In his four seasons in Buffalo, Diggs racked up 5,372 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns.
