Heartbreaking loss: Texans top Bills in OT 22-19

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is struggling to make plays, avoid pressure from aggressive Buffalo defense.

HOUSTON — BILLS VS. TEXANS (AFC WILD CARD PLAYOFF) - NRG Stadium - Houston, TX

FIRST QUARTER

The Bills offense delivers with its best drive of the season to start the game.  Allen leads Buffalo 75-yards over 6-plays running for 42 of them himself, and was on the receiving end of a 16-yard TD from John Brown.  Offensive coordinnator Brian Daboll scripted a fast paced and creative opening drive to give the Bills an early 7-0 lead.  Things settle in after that with each defense forcing a punt on the next two drives.  Buffalo's Trent Murphy came up with a sack of Deshaun Watson on 3rd and 3 on the Texans next drive forcing another punt.

SECOND QUARTER

The Bills put together their second scoring drive of the game albeit for a field goal. Josh Allen fumbled but was ruled as being down just before the ball came out on further review.  Stephen Hauschka capped the 11-play 69-yard drive with a 40-yard field goal to give the Bills a 10-0 lead.  The Bills defense continued to get off the field.  Trent Murphy (2) and Jerry Hughes (2) had totaled four sacks of Watson with 5:35 left in the half. The Bills put together a 15-play, 74-yard scoring drive capped by another Hauschka 40-yard FG.  They only took one shot at the end zone with an imcompletion to Duke Williams, and could have been more aggressive.  Bills lead 13-0 at the half.

THIRD QUARTER

The second half starts in bizarre fashion as Texans returner DeAndre Carter catches the kickoff in the end zone, doesn't take a knee, and gives up the football.  After a review, the officials rule he had "given himself up" and rule it a touchback.  The Bills defense continues the dominance of the Texans offense. Tremaine Edmunds comes up with Buffalo's fifth sack of the game. The Bills defense delivers again when Tre' White forces DeAndre Hopkins to fumble.  Tremaine Edmunds recovers and gives the Bills a drive start in Houston territory. JJ Watt sacks Josh Allen on 3rd and 8, but Hauschka connects on a 38-yard field goal to give Buffalo a 16-0 lead.  The Texans finally get on the scoreboard after a 9-play 75-yard drive capped by Deshaun Watson's 20-yard TD run.  Watson wins a race to the pylon to convert the two, and Houston makes it a one score game with 1:33 left in the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

Allen, who got lucky on a fumble that was reversed earlier, coughs the ball up at the start of the fourth quarter.  That leads to a Texans field goal to make it a 16-11 game.

With 4:37 left in the fourth quarter the Texans have taken their first lead of the game. Houston has scored 19 straight points.  Deshaun Watson connects with Carlos Hyde for the five yard touchdown. The touchdown came one play after Hyde bobbled a pitching from Watson that fortunately for Houston went out of  bounds.  Watson then connected with DeAndre Hopkins for the two point conversion. The Texans scoring drive last eight plays, covers 74 yards and takes 4:52 off the clock.  Houston leads 19-16.

With 5 seconds left in the fourth quarter Steven Hauschka kicks a 47 yard field goal to tie the game at 19. The drive takes 11 plays, covers 41 yards, and takes 1:11 off the game clock.  Game is tied at 19.

Overtime: Ka'imi Fairbairn kicks a 28 yard field goal with 5:39 remaining in overtime. The drive covers nine players, 73 yards and takes 5:39 off the clock.

The Bills season is over. For the second time in three years they have lost in the Wild Card game.
