Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame ready to induct Class of 2024

A 4-time Super Bowl champion, a 2-time Stanley Cup winner, and a member of the 2 On Your Side sports team are going into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A four-time Super Bowl champion, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, and a member of the 2 On Your Side sports team will be inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame this week.

Headlining this year's class are Amherst native and former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski, former Nichols School graduate and NHL defenseman Brooks Orpik, and Vic Carucci, who has spent more than four decades covering the NFL.

This is the 34th class for the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. They will be inducted during a dinner, which will be held on Nov. 12 in Amherst.

This year's inductees include:

  • Kevin Cadle, a high school basketball star, international and Olympic basketball coach, and sports broadcaster.
  • Vic Carucci, who has spent over 40 years covering the NFL.
  • Norm Foster, a coach from Iroquois High School and Amherst High School.
  • Warren Gelman, a three-sport high school athlete and longtime youth hockey administrator in the region.
  • Rob Gronkowski, a five-time Pro Bowl selection with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  
  • Rick Lancelloti, a former Buffalo Bisons player who who became a youth baseball instructor in Western New York.
  • Bridget Niland, a standout track athlete and college sports administrator.
  • Brooks Orpik, who won Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals.
  • Cecelie Owens, a Buffalo State basketball record-holder and founder of Goals. Integrity. Respect. Leadership. Sports. (G.I.R.L.S.) Foundation
  • Walt Stefani, a Western New York volleyball legend as player, coach, and administrator.
  • Ed Van Tine, a trailblazer who was known as the "Godfather of lacrosse in Western New York."
  • Paul Wieland, a groundbreaking communications professional for the Buffalo Sabres.

The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball teams from 1967 to 1970 will also be honored as a Team of Distinction during the November ceremony.

The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame began in 1991, and with this class, the total number of inductees will climb to 400 people.
