AMHERST, N.Y. — It was a packed house at Daemen College on Thursday night as the men's volleyball team hosted powerhouse UCLA.
It's just the second year of the program at Daemen, so bringing schools such as No. 2-ranked UCLA, No. 9 Pepperdine and Harvard to town this year is a big deal.
Daemen coach Donald Gleason said it was made possible through a grant and UCLA's coach, John Speraw, who is helping to grow the game.
"There's a really cool just pocket of men's volleyball in Western New York, and we're kind of excited for the community to see that," Gleason said. "And again, when recruits see kind of a packed gym, they get pretty excited about it."
UCLA won Thursday's match 3-0 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-17).
The next Division I team coming to Daemen is Pepperdine out of Malibu, California. That match will be January 14.
