Stolen Spectrum truck leads police on chase through Batavia backyards

Officers tried to force the truck to pull over at the intersection of Olyn Avenue and Holland Avenue, but the driver refused to stop.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Batavia Police took part in a chase through backyards and driveways after a Spectrum Cable truck was stolen in Batavia Saturday night. 

The truck was reported stolen late Saturday night by the Genesee County Sheriff's Office. Batavia Police officers saw the truck while patrolling later that night. 

Officers tried to force the truck to pull over at the intersection of Olyn Avenue and Holland Avenue, but the driver refused to stop. Officers continued to chase the truck from Holland Avenue, then on to Oak Street and finally on to Charles Street.

The driver drove through backyards on the north side of Charles Street, damaging fences and some vehicles. The chase continued through the yard of 70/72 Oak Street, damaging the house and the cars in the driveway. 

The suspect was forced to abandon the truck after hitting three vehicles in the driveway of 69 Oak Street. The suspect fled the scene on foot. Officers weren't able to find driver.  

Nobody was hurt in the accidents related to the chase. 

Witnesses say the suspect is a white man with long hair. He was wearing a black hoodie and backpack at the time of the incident. 

The Sheriff's Office and Batavia Police are collaborating on the investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the police department at (585) 345-6350 and ask for Detective Jason Ivison.
