LOCKPORT, N.Y. — Starpoint Central School District announced on Monday during a special board meeting that Superintendent Sean Croft will return to his post on Nov. 14 with full support from the board.
On Aug. 31, Croft was arrested for driving while intoxicated after allegedly crashing his car into a tree in West Seneca and failing several sobriety tests including a breath test, according to police.
Croft was placed on a leave of absence since his arrest and appeared in court back in September.
After making the announcement, the board did not take any questions and declined interview requests, instead releasing the following statement:
“The Board came to this decision following careful consideration and reflection, balancing the seriousness of the incident with Dr. Croft’s long standing dedication and positive contributions to this school community,” the statement said. “It is apparent through our conversations with Dr. Croft that he has taken responsibility for his action and has demonstrated a commitment to personal growth.”
Many Starpoint CSD parents have called the board’s handling of this process “hypocritical” given the district’s swift response to sexual harassment allegations within the boys’ wrestling team two years ago, when two students were removed from the district before being formally charged.
The district added that as a part of Croft’s return, he will sign a revised contract.
