Starpoint superintendent appears in court following DWI charge

Sean Croft was arrested by West Seneca Police after failing several sobriety tests and a breath test on Aug. 31.

WEST SENECA, N.Y. — Embattled Starpoint CSD Superintendent Sean Croft appeared in West Seneca town court for the first time Tuesday, pleading not guilty to one DWI charge and having his license temporarily suspended.

The charge stems from an incident back on Aug. 31 where Croft was arrested by West Seneca Police after failing several sobriety tests and a breath test upon crashing his car.

Since, the superintendent has been placed on administrative leave, and the school board hasn’t said if the leave will be made permanent.

“The Board is committed to ensuring that we have all of the relevant information and that all facts are carefully evaluated before we make a decision regarding this matter,” the board said in a statement earlier this month.

2 On Your Side pressed the superintendent after court today on whether he plans to resign, but he declined to comment. His attorney also declined to interview.

Some Starpoint parents are calling for his resignation, saying at a school board meeting last week that Croft’s refusal to do so is hypocritical.

They pointed to the superintendent’s history of swift action when it comes to students, including his response to sexual harassment allegations within the boys’ wrestling teams two school years ago when two students were removed from the district before being formally charged.

Croft is set to return to court on Oct. 15th.

Maureen Braunscheidel is serving as the district's acting superintendent.
