SALAMANCA, N.Y. — The Seneca Nation has partnered up with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department to fund a new K-9 Unit for them. The Seneca Nation donated $30,000 to the department, which will fully fund the purchase and support of a new narcotics dog.
“It has not gone without notice that the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department has recently made an aggressive effort in combating illegal drug activity on and near our Seneca territories,” Seneca Nation's President Rickey L. Armstrong, Sr. said.
The Sheriff's Department will welcome a specially trained police dog to help out with law enforcement tasks such as narcotics detection, tracking, and suspect apprehension.
One deputy will also undergo training to become the K-9's handler.
“The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s office and the Seneca Nation are partnering together with one common goal of taking drugs off our streets and cleaning up our neighborhoods. I’m proud to announce we have partnered with the Nation to add another K-9 drug unit to patrol our streets and the communities we live in and call home,” Cattaraugus County Sheriff Eric Butler said.
