North Tonawanda High School grieves loss of a student

The school will have grief counselors on site the next two days.

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The North Tonawanda City School District confirms the tragic loss of one of their students in a car accident.

The student is identified as Michael Marra, a senior at the school.

The Niagara County Sheriff's office says Marra swerved off the road Tuesday night, crashing the car into a telephone pole and a tree on Niagara Falls Boulevard near Ward Road.

He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The high school issued this statement on their website:

We regret the need to share that today North Tonawanda High School grieves the sudden, tragic loss of student Michael Marra, a member of the class of 2020. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Michael’s family and friends. The NTHS Crisis Response Team convened this morning to plan for support services that students and staff may need during the difficult days that lay ahead.

NT Lumberyard, a fan account for the school also tweeted out this.

It says Marra played lacrosse at North Tonawanda, adding he was a "first class" guy and no one ever had anything bad to say about him.

The tweet added he will be missed by so many.

A few of them include Marra's friends, who stopped by the scene of the crash earlier this afternoon trying to make sense of it all.

They didn't want to be on camera but told 2 On Your Side they can't believe this happened, when Marra had so much more of his life left to live.
