New policies in effect for Sweet Home High School football games

The new policies require students in 8th grade or younger to be accompanied by an adult, and for all fans to have an electronic ticket.

AMHERST, N.Y. — New policies went into effect on Friday night for varsity football games played at Sweet Home High School.

Sweet Home is the latest district to increase safety measures following incidents at games. The new policies require students in eighth grade or younger to be accompanied by an adult, and all fans to have an electronic ticket.

They also prohibit spectators from re-entering the complex, and bringing in bags larger than the size of a clutch.

The move comes after a disturbance created a delay at a Sept. 6 game at Sweet Home football game to start the new high school football season.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday near the Sweet Home High School football field, where the Amherst Police Department said it received a report of a fight that included juveniles.

Amherst Police released a news release on Sept. 9, saying that the fight involved multiple youths near the field during the game.

Police reported no injuries and no arrests from the incident that caused a delay before the start of the second half.

Amherst Police said the school's administration was aware of the incident and that it would be referring it through its disciplinary process. 2 On Your Side reached out to the Sweet Home school district, who did not want to comment on the situation at the time.

The game eventually resumed, and Orchard Park beat Sweet Home 49-37 to open a new high school football season across the state.
