Hamburg officials still assessing damage around Hoover Beach

The town plans to host meetings to talk about what can be done to make lake-shore communities safer from the forces of nature.

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Town of Hamburg officials are hoping they can get federal emergency assistance to help homeowners and businesses near the lake shore following a Halloween wind and rain storm.

2 On Your Side spoke to town supervisor Jim Shaw, who on Friday said that they had emergency officials out assessing the damage around Hoover Beach.

"It will open up low-interest loans to homeowners and private businesses and that can give them some tax advantages as they go forward," Shaw said.

Shaw said that in addition to the funding, the town will be hosting meetings in the future to talk about what can be done to make lake-shore communities safer from the forces of nature.
