Rain and wind cause flooding, downed trees and power outages in WNY

Emergency crews are responding to several calls overnight as strong winds cause problems in Buffalo & WNY.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Emergency crews and first responders are dealing with several calls of trees down and flooding as strong winds and heavy rain move through Buffalo and Western New York early Friday. 

Road Closures 

Debris and flooding have led to the following traffic issues: 

- Route 5 WB and EB from Amsdell Road to Pleasant Avenue in Hamburg

-Route 5 WB from Ridge Road in Lackawanna to Route 179 in Hamburg

-Lapp Road in Clarence close from Goodrich to Strickler 

- Salt Road closed from Lapp Road to Parker Road 

- Nice Road closed from North Millgrove Road to South Newstead Road in the Town of Newstead 

- Route 265 in Lewiston is closed at Route 104 to Upper Mountain Road

- Route 31 is closed in both directions from South Main Street in the Town of Royalton to Hoffman Road in the Town of Medina

- Keller Road is closed in both directions from Goodrich Road to Strickler Road in the Town of Clarence

- Bennett Road is closed in both directions from Dennis Road to Route 5 in the Town of Evans

- Route 104 to Route 954P (Upper Mountain Road) in the Town of Lewiston.

Hamburg Emergency Services have issued a voluntary evacuation of Southshore Drive and Midshore Drive in Hoover Beach. All residents are asked to report to the community center or seek shelter out of the Hoover Beach area.

Earlier in the evening, a few people had to be rescued from a flooded viaduct at Niagara Street and Tonawanda Street in Buffalo.
