LEWISTON, New York — Earlier this year, plans were released for a historic landmark in Lewiston with plans of opening this summer, but that has been delayed.

What was once a McDonald's in a historic Lewiston building, a new restaurant was planned for the old Frontier House.

Those plans are still happening, but now that summer has come and gone, their opening date is looking a bit different now as renovations are underway.

In an article published by Niagara Frontier Publications on October 4, they shared that the Frontier House opening date has been pushed back.

Niagara Frontier Publications spoke to the the man spearheading the renovation, Director of Development Tom Fox, with Buffalo-based Ellicott Development Co. who told the publication:

“We were hoping for Labor Day, but that got pushed. We are up against a lot of tough lead times given the number of custom finishes that are going in as part of the historic rehab that take a little bit of extra time to get. In many cases, we’re dealing with specialized trades. …

“In general, there's labor issues right now, too, that we're still dealing with, that slow things down. Availability, guys, that sort of thing, to get folks up here to get the work done.”

They are still hoping to welcome guests in 2024. Read the full Niagara Frontier Publications article here.

According to Ellicott Development's website, the Frontier house was first built in 1824. The National Register of Historic Places recognized it in 1974.

Historic Lewiston's webpage also shares that the historic building housed a McDonald's franchise in it from 1977 - 2004. Following McDonald's closure the building remained empty from  2004 until now.
