According to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, about 3,000 customers won't have power restored until the overnight hours, or even Monday night.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Damage from high winds was widespread across Western New York.

Thousands of customers in Western New York and the Southern Tier woke up to windy, rainy conditions and power outages Sunday morning.

At 9 a.m. Sunday, NYSEG reported more than 35,000 customers without power. At the same time, National Grid reported more than over 15,000 customers without power.

According to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, about 3,000 of those customers won't have power restored until the overnight hours, or even Monday night.

The largest concentration of damage and outages were in Erie County, and in areas east and south of the county.

At least 23 traffic signals were damaged or knocked down across Buffalo, and a City Hall spokesperson said city crews were working to restore them.

Fallen trees created more damage. One smashed into a car parked along 7th Street in Buffalo's Niagara District.

In Orchard Park, a manger scene at St Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church was blown apart.

A busy intersection at Transit and French roads in Depew was out for hours, and a generator was used to power a traffic signal at Town Line Road and Walden Avenue in Lancaster.

In West Seneca, a large tree punched a hole in the roof of a home and also flattened the SUV parked in the driveway. Police say no one was hurt.
