Firefighters leave condolences for fellow fireman who died of cancer

South Line Volunteer Fire Company mourns the loss of one of their firefighters who died of cancer.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Friends and fellow firefighters are leaving messages of condolences for the South Line Volunteer Fire Company following the loss of one of their firefighters who died of cancer.

We first met Gus Buczek earlier this month when the volunteer firefighter, and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, got a special escort home from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Buczek was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, and his brother and sister firefighters in Cheektowaga wanted to help him get home to be with his family and hospice care.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
