Cheektowaga volunteer firefighter gets escort from Roswell Park

Gus Buczek has terminal pancreatic cancer, and his brother and sister firefighters wanted to help him get home to be with his family.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A volunteer firefighter and U.S. Marine Corps veteran got a special escort home from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center on Tuesday.

Gus Buczek has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, and his brother and sister firefighters in Cheektowaga wanted to help him get home to be with his family and hospice care.

Fellow firefighters say they know Gus would do the same for any of them.

"I think it's just showing our support for a brother fireman. He'd be there for us first thing. We're here for them," said James Rudnicki, treasurer of the South Line Fire Department.

South Line firefighters emphasized that everyone who works for their company becomes family, so when one of them hurts, they all hurt.
