Erie County prepares for 2019-2020 winter season

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says citizens can expect to see more plows on county roads this winter than years past.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — As power has been restored to nearly everyone after last week's wind storm, Erie County officials are now looking ahead to prepare for winter.

On Monday the county's emergency management department announced that it's now accredited by New York State for its compliance with industry standards. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says citizens can expect to see more plows on county roads this winter than years past.

"That's 50 in total, which is up from just 37 a few years ago, which allows us also to have one or two in reserve," he said. "So we will actually have more plow trucks on the road from Erie County in the 2019-2020 season than we've had in nearly 20 years."

Poloncarz also said the county is accepting applications for part-time drivers who are licensed to operate large snow-removal equipment.
