GoFundMe created to help Buffalo family who lost everything in fire

Buffalo firefighters were called around 2:30 p.m. Friday to 64 Barthel St., east of MLK Park, where a fire had started in a 1.5-story occupied building.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — First responders performed CPR and took that woman to the hospital following a fire Friday in the City of Buffalo.

Buffalo firefighters were called around 2:30 p.m. Friday to 64 Barthel St., east of MLK Park, where a fire had started in a 1.5-story occupied building.

"Firefighters arrived and discovered a fire on the first floor, which they were able to contain," a spokesperson for the Buffalo Fire Department said in a statement.

Firefighters, during a secondary search, found a woman in her 30s in a first-floor bedroom. She was taken outside, where CPR was performed.

"One firefighter assisted the AMR team with rescue breathing during transport," to Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo Fire said. She's listed in critical condition.

A GoFundMe created by Gary Cutright, to help the family says the woman has long recovery ahead of her.  "While she is strong and fighting to recover, the road ahead will be long. In the meantime, my children are doing our best to cope with the trauma and uncertainty of starting over," he said.

The Red Cross is assisting five adults and five children who have been displaced by the fire, which caused an estimated $80,000 in damages to the building and $40,000 in damages to the contents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
