BUFFALO, N.Y. — City of Buffalo and Erie County crews worked throughout the day Sunday to ensure safe driving conditions for motorists.
A Winter Weather Advisory that was originally set to expire on Sunday was extended for Erie County, plus all of Western New York, until 11 a.m. Monday. Slick roads and car accidents were reported throughout the area.
Buffalo Department of Public Works crews salted main and secondary roads throughout the morning. The city urged motorists to delay travel plans and cautioned pedestrians on driveways and sidewalks.
William Geary, commissioner of the Erie County Department of Public Works, said 28 trucks were deployed to treat the roads. He said the roads were particularly troublesome in the morning with freezing rain but added that conditions improved as temperatures rose.
