Buffalo AKG announces new exhibit

The new exhibition celebrates many of the artists who have worked with the AKG’s Public Art Initiative in its first ten years.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo AKG Art Museum announced on Tuesday a new exhibit called Hi-Vis. This upcoming exhibition will celebrate many of the artists who have worked with the Buffalo AKG’s Public Art Initiative in its first ten years.

Some of the artists featured on display include Julia Bottoms, FUTURA 2000, Maya Hayuk, Logan Hicks, Jun Kaneko, Monet Kifner, Shantell Martin, Louise Jones, Felipe Pantone, Pat Perry, and Edreys Wajed.

Hi-Vis is co-curated by the Buffalo AKG’s Public Art Team consisting of Aaron Ott, Curator of Public Art; Eric Jones, Public Art Projects Manager; and Zack Boehler, Assistant Curator, Special Projects.

The new exhibit plans to connect audiences familiar with public works to the museum and vice versa, re-engaging audiences to the depth and breadth that the Buffalo AKG’s artists create.

The exhibition will be presented on the third floor of the museum’s new Jeffrey E. Gundlach Building begining Feb. 21 until June 9, 2025.

Since its creation in 2013, the Public Art Initiative has created more than sixty works by eighty artists. As the first dedicated public art department at an American museum, the Initiative has been celebrated as a sustainable and impactful model for creating public artworks. The Initiative is a partnership between the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Erie County, and the City of Buffalo.
