BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo’s AKG Art Museum is unveiling a new mural.
The polytab mural is located on the East Side, on a county-run health clinic, and close to Harriet Ross Tubman School (BPS 31) at 608 William St.
Philadelphia-based artist Ben Volta and local artist Edreys Wajed worked together with BPS 31 students on the design and to print it on the polytab for public paint days. AKG states the location helped to inspire the design.
Polytab is a fabric used to create murals. AKG held public paint days where community members can paint parts of the mural on the polytab fabric which will then be installed as the mural.
The mural is part of AKG’s Public Art Initiative.
In 2024 the AKG planned 5 public art projects, including the signs in Delaware Park. The initiative began in 2013 in partnership with Erie County and the City of Buffalo. Since its inception, AKG has installed more than 60 public artworks in the area.
The 608 William St. mural will officially be unveiled at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30.
