BUFFALO, N.Y. — With Black History Month now underway, Black-owned businesses were invited to set up at the Broadway Market, with retailers selling everything from clothes to jewelry to food.
It's part of a tradition that began a few years ago, and 2 On Your Side met one business owner who hopes to be able to pass down the spirit of entrepreneurship to the next generation.
"To learn how to build equity, to build a life for yourself, and to do it for yourself when something is a passion for you, and not just a job," Brenda McCarley said. "When you were your granddaughters' age, did you see Black-owned businesses? Did you have role models at that age? Not many. Not many at all."
The Black-owned businesses will be set up in the Broadway Market every Saturday throughout February.
