BUFFALO, N.Y. — Western New York Congressman Tom Reed wants Congress to take a closer look at the actions that Gov. Andrew Cuomo took concerning nursing homes here in New York.
Reed is calling for an investigation into Cuomo's handling of the crisis and the order in March that nursing homes couldn't deny a patient based on them testing positive for COVID-19.
An Associated Press report says that order forced nursing homes to accept more than 4,500 patients who had tested positive.
"Bottom line, this is about accountability from the sake of, why did this happen?" Reed said. "And let's put it out there so these four other governors, and more importantly, the 45 other governors do not go down this path if and when the virus rears its head and we position ourselves and the nation to protect these seniors that clearly the virus is targeting."
Cuomo repeated Thursday that his order was based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance that was issued to keep hospital capacity down.
