Cuomo: Businesses violating reopening rules face loss of liquor license and possible shutdown

Governor also signed an Executive Order making bars responsible for the immediate area outside its location.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Governor Andrew Cuomo said Thursday the state saw the lowest number of positive cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak took hold back in March.

Over 69,000 tests were done across the state Wednesday with 618 of them positive or a rate of just under one percent.

To keep those numbers trending in the right direction, Cuomo announced a pair of moves aimed at strengthening state enforcement of reopening guidleines to protect New Yorkers.

The first says businesses that violate reopening rules and guidelines will face a possible loss of its liquor license and an immediate shutdown. Cuomo also signed an Executive Order making bars responsible for the area immediately outside its location, expanding the enforcement of the State Liquor Authority (SLA).

Cuomo said the state is in the process of issuing guidance to colleges and universities planning to allow face to face programming for the Fall Semester. The governor said campuses must develop a plan that meets state guidelines and that plan must then be filed with the state.
