LOCKPORT, N.Y. — The Starpoint Central School District issued a letter to community members on Friday, days after the Board of Education launched an investigation following the superintendent's arrest.
The letter — signed by Starpoint board of education president Jeffrey Duncan — said "members of our school community to high standards, and we expect our leadership to reflect the same values."
The Starpoint superintendent, Sean M. Croft, was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Aug. 31 in West Seneca. Police said the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, and the airbags deployed.
Croft failed several field sobriety tests, police said, and showed a positive result on a roadside breath test. He received appearance tickets and was charged with DWI, moving from lane unsafely, and imprudent speed.
Here's what Duncan said in Friday's letter to the community:
The Board of Education recognizes the seriousness of the situation involving our Superintendent, Dr. Croft.
At Starpoint Central School District, we hold the members of our school community to high standards, and we expect our leadership to reflect the same values.
The Board is committed to ensuring that we have all of the relevant information and that all facts are carefully evaluated before we make a decision regarding this matter.
Maureen Braunscheidel will continue to serve as Acting Superintendent during Dr. Croft's absence.
We appreciate the community's trust as we navigate this difficult situation. We will continue to provide updates as we are able.
Croft is scheduled to appear in in West Seneca Justice Court later this month.
