D'Youville University approves mental health program

The new psychology doctoral program hopes to prepare students for 'complex and evolving healthcare' industry.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville University received approval from the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) on Friday to offer a Clinical Psychology Doctoral program. Classes in the program will begin in Fall 2024.

The "rigorous program" will have over 1,000 hours of supervised practicum experience, a one-year pre-doctoral internship and a clinical dissertation. The program aims to prepare graduates for a variety of careers in medical, forensic and mental health areas.

“Mental health is a critical component of overall well-being,” D’Youville President Lorrie Clemo, PhD said. “Our PsyD program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become skilled clinicians who address the holistic needs of their patients. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration with other healthcare professionals, we are preparing graduates to excel in a complex and evolving healthcare landscape.”

The university's psychology program includes a lot of "interprofessional collaboration." Students should expect to learn from peers in many different healthcare disciplines.
