Buffalo Public Schools turn toward Rochester to recruit teachers

The Rochester School Board decided to cut 155 staff positions last week. Buffalo is waiving the residency requirement for certified teachers.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Public Schools recently posted a big ad in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle newspaper, encouraging the laid-off teachers and staff members there to apply to work here.

The Rochester School Board decided to cut 155 staff positions last week.

The school board in Rochester made the decision to cut jobs to close a huge budget gap of more than $64 million.

Buffalo is advertising positions in science, math, art and more, and is waiving the residency requirement for certified teachers.
