2 men charged for spray painting playground in Town of Tonawanda

Vandals spray painted the newly installed playground at Kenney Field in the Town of Tonawanda. An inappropriate word has been blacked out.

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The Town of Tonawanda Police say they have charged two people with vandalizing Kenney Park.

Stephen Achilli, 20, of Grand Island, and Rekwan Gilbert, 19, of the Town of Tonawanda are charged with criminal mischief in the second degree and making graffiti.

Investigators say Achilli and Gilbert are accused of spray-painting racist, derogatory and obscene words and images at the park, including the newly installed inclusive playground and other structures around the playground and Rails to Trails. 

Officials say damage was estimated at $1,500. 

Both men were arraigned in Town of Tonawanda Court  and released.  They are scheduled to appear in court again on October 7.
