Buffalo Police respond to 4 overnight shootings

2 On Your Side spoke with Pastor James Giles with WNY Peacemakers about the shootings. He says social media is partially to blame.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 19-year-old woman was shot in the foot on Roetzer Street early Sunday morning according to Buffalo Police.

The incident happened just after midnight after a fight broke out at a large block party according to a spokesperson for the department.

The woman was taken to Sisters of Charity Hospital in a private vehicle to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call or text the Confidential TIPCALL Line at (716) 847-2255.

2 On Your Side spoke with Pastor James Giles with WNY Peacemakers. He says social media is partially to blame.

"The minute you post this stuff on Facebook, you're inviting an element that you did not account for. Most of the people who get hit, get hit blindsided," Giles says.

Giles focuses on preventing gun violence in our communities. The majority of the time, his target audience is teenagers.

"If your children are not home at 11, 12 o'clock, get in your car and go get them," Giles said.

The Roetzer Street incident was one of four scenes that Buffalo Police responded to overnight. Buffalo Police also responded to an incident on Wood Avenue just after 2am.  Police confirm that shots were fired, but no one was shot.  Three cars were hit by bullets and officials say a person was hit by a car.  That person was taken to a nearby hospital by officers.

The street was littered with shell casings and the road was blocked off when 2 On Your Side arrived around 2 a.m.

Officers also responded to the Rite Aid parking lot at Elmwood Avenue and Bryant Street around 2:45 a.m. where two men were shot. They were both treated at ECMC for non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Buffalo Police shared that another shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Avenue and Dupont Street.

Detectives say two people were shot during a large street party. The man and woman were transported to ECMC, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Going back to that final shooting site of Woodlawn and Dupont, if you remember just last year, 2 On Your Side reported a fatal shooting in that general area. It took the life of 18-year-old Columbus Brooks. His sister commented on social media early Sunday morning.

"I don't want to say that to put anyone in fear. All I'm saying is we have to be more careful. We have to be more cautious," Giles said.

2 On Your Side has reached out to the Buffalo Police Department for more information about each incident and will provide updates when those details become available.
