Port of Buffalo officers find chocolate with Psilocybin worth $165K

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Buffalo discovered the commercial shipments of psilocybin.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Throughout the last 30 days, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) officers at the Port of Buffalo found multiple commercial shipments containing psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms. The shipments were confiscated at the Peace Bridge warehouse, according to CPB.

Officers at the Peace Bridge discovered the shipments described as 'chocolate and other food preparations'. After further inspection, it was found that those chocolate bricks contained psilocybin, a schedule 1 controlled substance. The products were field tested by officers to verify they were positive for the substance, according to CPB.

The estimated street value for the confiscated drugs is valued at approximately $165,000.

“Utilizing their training and experience, our CBP officers continue to intercept narcotic shipments,” Area Port Director Gaetano Cordone said. “All of our CBP employees work tirelessly each and every day to protect our country and communities from unregulated drugs that can become fatal to consumers.

A total of 15 seizures of psilocybin chocolate shipments, with a weight of more than 20 pounds, were discovered throughout the past 30 days. Approximately seven pounds of mushroom chocolate was seized on October 9.

The smuggling attempt remains an ongoing investigation with CPB.
