Man charged in Club Marcella Shooting sentenced to prison

Sharief R. McBroom, 21, was sentenced in State Supreme Court on Tuesday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison for a shooting at a popular downtown Buffalo nightclub.

Sharief R. McBroom, 21,  was sentenced in State Supreme Court on Tuesday. He pleaded to one count of Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree back in July

Investigator says McBroom fired multiple shots at 21-year-old Jorge Garcia Leon inside the now closed Club Marcella on February 12, 2023.  Leon died at the scene.  Two other people were injured by the gunfire.

“This was a completely senseless, violent crime. This defendant snuck an illegal gun into a nightclub then intentionally fired multiple shots at the victims after a minor altercation. There was no reduced plea offered in this case. I hope that the family of Jorge Garcia Leon and the two survivors feel that justice has been served by this defendant pleading guilty to all counts and being sentenced to a significant term of incarceration,” said Acting District Attorney Mike Keane in a press release.

"There were three shooting victims. There could have been more. There could have been more homicides. This was completely senseless. This was a fist fight in a night club. It was over. Mr. McBroom made the deliberate choice to return to Jorge Garcia- Leon and shoot him at very close range." said Assistant District Attorney Christopher Safulko.

Sharief McBroom addressed the courtroom before the sentencing and apologized to the victims family.

"I did get carried away and I probably shouldn't have did that. I'm sorry ,and if I could take it back I would. But sorry is not enough, and there's nothing I can do about it," McBroom said.
