Fired Town of Tonawanda paramedic pleads guilty to drug charge

Jon Cinelli, 52, faces up to one year in prison when he's scheduled to be sentenced on February 28. He must complete a judicial diversion program.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A former Town of Tonawanda paramedic pleaded guilty on Thursday to one misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Jon Cinelli, 52, of Grand Island, made the plea in Erie County Court.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's office, Cinelli stole various prescription medications from a drug drop-off box located at the town police department.

Cinelli must complete a judicial diversion program as part of the plea. He was fired by the town in March, along with his co-defendant, Jeremy Pecoraro, 40, who pleaded guilty in October and won't face punishment as long as he stays out of legal trouble for the next year and gets counseling.

Cinelli faces up to one year in prison when he's scheduled to be sentenced on February 28.
