LEWISTON, N.Y. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection has seized a number of items during recent months, from stolen vehicles, to hair dryers, to "puzzle activity boxes."
Now you can add counterfeit earbuds to the list. Those 119 pairs of wireless earphones were seized for bearing counterfeit trademarks, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Federal agents determined the earbuds to be counterfeit based on their violation of protected configuration trademarks. The merchandise was seized Thursday at a warehouse in Lewiston.
“This is another great example of the work our employees do to protect honest trade,” Buffalo port director Gaetano Cordone said in a statement. “Counterfeit items defraud both the consumer and legitimate businesses. Our officers are committed to diligently working to protect our economy and the American consumer.”
Had the earbuds been authentic, their value would have topped $15,000, the agency said.
