BUFFALO, N.Y. — The early bird won't necessarily get the worm but will get reduced pricing for the annual Turkey Trot.
The YMCA Buffalo Niagara announced the Turkey Trot's early bird registration fee will end on October 11. Then on October 12, the registration fee increases to $41 per entry until the race sells out.
The early Thanksgiving morning tradition is an 8K (4.97 Mile) run/walk and is known to be the oldest consecutively run footrace in North America. Participants are encouraged to run/walk in costumes making this a fun-filled holiday tradition.
The race will only take 14,000 participants. Online registration is available here.
The YMCA Turkey Trot begins at 9 a.m. at the Delaware Family YMCA and ends at Franklin and Court Streets near the Buffalo Convention Center. Proceeds from the race go to the YMCA's financial assistance program, which helps the organization assist Western New Yorkers.
That's not all... Each year the YMCA Buffalo Niagara Turkey Trot partners with WGRZ Ch. 2 and FeedMoreWNY for the Food2Families Food Drive. Each Turkey Trot participant is encouraged to bring 2 cans of non-perishable food items to Packet Pick-Up (Monday, November 25 and Wednesday, November 27 between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm at the Independent Health Family Branch YMCA, 150 Tech Drive, Amherst, NY) to help feed families in need during the holiday season. FeedMore WNY donation collection bins will be set up at all Buffalo Niagara YMCA locations throughout the month of November.
