Be prepared for a Thanksgiving holiday rush at the grocery store

2 On Your Side spoke with some customers who spent their Sunday doing some last-minute shopping with the holiday fast approaching.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — This week represents one of busiest times of the year for grocery stores as people stock up on turkey and all the fixings.

2 On Your Side spoke with some customers, at Tops Friendly Markets in the Town of Tonawanda, who joined the crowds and spent their Sunday doing some last-minute shopping.

"Everyone's kind of in a hurry, but hopefully that will kind of change as we get further into the holiday season," Sean Martin of Kenmore said. "People have started earlier I've noticed too. A lot of people out shopping, so just trying to get through it, you know."

Some grocery store chains, such as ALDI, are boasting that it can feed a 10 people for less than $47. The annual American Farm Bureau Federation Thanksgiving dinner survey says it will cost you $58.08 for a meal for 10 people, which is down from 2023 prices.

"This year, there's plenty of turkeys to buy, but consumption's going to be down significantly, and ironically, and for consumer good, turkey prices will be down about 5 percent," Burt Flickinger, the Strategic Resource Group's managing director, told 2 On Your Side last week.
