BUFFALO, N.Y. — Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announced Niagara officers will join law enforcement agencies across New York State to keep travelers safe on the road this holiday weekend.
Starting today, the statewide July 4th High Visibility Engagement Campaign prompted by STOP-DWI New York goes into effect- running through July 7.
The Niagara County's Sheriff's Office will be working to help reduce the number of drug-impaired driving related injuries and fatalities during the busy travel weekend- monitoring roads, conducting sobriety checks, and targeting aggressive driving.
According to a release, STOP-DWI efforts have significantly reduced numbers of alcohol and drug related fatalities on the road. The campaign works to crack down on impaired driving for several busy travel holidays in addition to the 4th of July- including the Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekends.
