NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Local officials released more details about the popular New Year's Eve "On The Canal" ball drop that's returning to the Tonawandas.
City leaders — including North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec along with City of Tonawanda Mayor John White — held a news conference Friday to outline the details of the event.
The Renaissance Bridge, which connects the Twin Cities, will be where the fireworks take place, and the ball drop will be at the base of the bridge near the Gateway and Webster Street In North Tonawanda.
"This is the beginning of probably what's going to be a really cool event going forward," Frankie Primo's +39 owner Jay Manno said.
"We did this kind of on the 11th hour, but next year I've been walking around and talking to establishments, passing out check stuffers to promote it, and they're all in all this next year. Hopefully close both blocks, and the block over there, and make this a real happening every year. "
You can bring your own alcoholic drinks as long as you're at the event.
"It is just amazing to witness the many wonderful events that are created for the benefit of the citizens of both the City of North Tonawanda and the City of Tonawanda and basically all of the people in the Niagara Frontier region," Tylec said in a statement.
"This is going to be very special, and we are so fortunate to have community minded businesses, like David Chevrolet, who step up to the plate to make it happen."
